City Aligned

Weekly tables for curious people who like talking about AI safety, rationalism, and how the world actually works. Same time, same place, every week. There's no agenda and nothing to sign up for. You just show up and sit down.

What is this?

Every city is full of people circling the same questions who never quite end up in the same room.

City Aligned is a small fix for that. It's a standing weekly meetup in one fixed spot, and you can just show up. Nothing to prepare, no one to email first. Some people come every week and some come once, and both are fine, the table's there either way. It's for people already deep in it, the LessWrong readers and the alignment-curious, and for people who are only just getting interested. Honestly the second group might be the more important one.

Why weekly?

A monthly meetup feels like networking. A weekly one turns into a social circle, because you keep running into the same faces and eventually they're just your friends. That's the part that matters. It's also how someone who's only getting into AI safety ends up sitting next to people who can point them somewhere real.

Weekly everywhere is the goal, and we're not there yet in most cities. But where it runs, it works. The way it spreads is simple enough: we start a table in a new city, find a local to host it, then hand it over. The Bluestockings Fellowship is how we train the people who do that.

The Toronto table has run every week for about a year now. Fifteen or so people most weeks, a lot of them regulars by this point, to where it's less a meetup than a group of people who actually know each other.

Toronto runs weekly. Warsaw and Kraków have each had a first meetup. Have a look at where there's a table, or where one's on the way.
